Best Overall Outdoors Wallet – Dango D01 Dapper Bifold

D01 Dapper Bifold wallet held in hand

Among the many wallets that can potentially take the top place on this list, the one that stands out the most is the Dango D01 Dapper Bifold. Apart from having a universal look, this wallet offers a wide range of features that come in handy for anyone who likes to spend the majority of their time outdoors.

It’s quite rare to find a minimalist wallet that fits the outdoorsy lifestyle, yet still has a lot of room for cards and cash bills. Most people who have this lifestyle usually don’t carry that many things with them. Even so for the ones that want a minimalist wallet suited for the outdoors, but still need to carry a lot of cards and cash with them, this wallet is the best choice. Owners have managed to fit up to 17 cards and 5 cash bills in it without any issues.

Simplicity is at the core of this wallet’s design so it can easily become a part of anybody’s wardrobe. The outside of this wallet has 4 card slots while the inside has a card slot and a card cavity.

There are a couple of colors available for the design including grey, black, and silver. You also have the option to choose the color of the wallet band which will give your Dango D01 Dapper Bifold a personal touch.

One of the main reasons why this wallet is the top pick for this list is the number of features it comes with. The coolest feature out of all is the bottle opener/glass breaker. Such a neat tool can prove to be helpful on many occasions, especially for outdoorsy people. Apart from this, Dango wallets can be equipped with one of the multitools that Dango makes specifically for their wallets. This adds up to about 14 more extra tools to your Dango wallet, which overall makes it the perfect outdoors wallet.

For all the wallets that Dango makes there is a lifetime warranty and a 30-day return period, in case you are dissatisfied with your wallet

Who shouldn’t buy the Dango D01 Dapper Bifold?

The Dango D01 Dapper Bifold is not that expensive, but it still doesn’t fall within the budget category. If you have already set a strict budget for your next wallet, then I would suggest checking out some other alternatives on this list.

Also, a true minimalist might not be into using a wallet with such a large storage capacity as the Dango D01 Dapper Bifold has.

Who should buy the Dango D01 Dapper Bifold?

The Dango D01 Dapper Bifold is one of the best bifold wallets, and arguably one of the best wallets under $100, so it will be a good fit for many people looking for a great mix of value and quality.

This wallet is perfect for someone who has a mix of an outdoorsy and corporate lifestyle. Basically, it can hold a lot of cards and cash bills, but still, maintain a slim figure, so it won’t take up too much space and it will still be useful for someone that needs the space.

As this is one of the few wallets that also comes with an attachment point, it would make a good wallet for someone who does sports. Since you can easily attach your wallet to your bag or even your pants, you will have a lot less to worry about in your next training session.

Best Attachable Outdoors Wallet – Trayvax Element

brown Trayvax Element on a piece of wood

The Trayvax Element can satisfy your basic needs for carrying cash and some cards, and also comes along with an attachment point. A simple wallet such as this one is perfect for anyone who is looking to adopt a more minimalist lifestyle.

This wallet can fit up to 10 cards, but you will notice after placing more and more of them in it, that the leather starts to stretch. Due to this, I would suggest carrying less than 10 cards so that you don’t end up damaging the material.

Apart from cards, you can also carry 1-5 cash bills inside it.

One great thing about this wallet is that you can fit any type of currency inside it without any issues, unlike some minimalist wallets which restrict you to carrying one type of currency that fits their design.

The wallet uses a thick leather material which gives it a very compact and neat design. Colors in which the leather is available are:

  • tobacco brown
  • steel grey
  • Mississippi mud
  • stealth black

Some of the great features that are a part of this wallet’s design are a bottle opener, an attachment point, and a MIL-SPEC paracord.

Trayvax is a brand that is confident in the quality which it offers to customers, so because of that, this wallet, like most others from this brand, comes with a warranty period of 65 years. In case you aren’t happy with it, you also have the option to return it within 30 days of getting it.

Who shouldn’t buy the Trayvax Element?

Anyone who intends to carry more than 8 cards in their wallet should reconsider getting this one. As I said before, overstuffing the Trayvax Element will end up stretching and maybe even damaging the leather.

Most people that prefer to use cash instead of a card won’t like this wallet either. There is room for only up to 5 cash bills inside it, and there is no room for spare change. See my guide on the best wallets for cash if you use cash daily.

Who should buy the Trayvax Element?

Even if this wallet has a simple aesthetic that will probably fit just about anyone, the first people that come to mind that are a perfect match with it are hikers, runners, and motorcyclists.

The Trayvax Element is one of the most outdoorsy-looking wallets I’ve come across so far. If you not only love the outdoors but want to aesthetically look the part for such a lifestyle, then adding this accessory to your wardrobe won’t be a mistake.

This wallet is also a top pick for anyone who is satisfied with carrying just a couple of cards and cash bills with them.

I would also recommend this wallet because of its attachment point. It has one of the strongest and most well-built attachment points currently available and it also comes with a MIL-SPEC paracord, which is a paracord that passes military specifications.

You can read the rest of the information about it in my detailed review of the Trayvax Element.

Best Fully-enclosed Outdoors Wallet – Flipside 4

diagonal view of the Flipside 4

If you are looking for a wallet that is very similar to a simple enclosed case, then I have the best suggestion for you. The Flipside 4 is a fully enclosed aluminum minimalist wallet that can carry everything you need.

The recommended number of cards to place inside this wallet is officially 8, however, you might be able to fit in some more. Even so, I wouldn’t recommend doing this, because exceeding the recommended number of cards is never a good idea. You could end up straining your wallet and even damaging it if you go overboard with the number of cards you place in it.

When it comes to cash bills the wallet can fit anything from 3 to 15 of them at once. The available space for cash bills really depends on the number of cards you will carry, since they both go in the same place. So if you decide not to carry many cards, you can go ahead and place more cash bills inside your wallet.

Aesthetically, this wallet looks like a neat little box, and it comes in the colors black, grey, red, and blue. Generally, the design is very simple and it will fit any style you want.

Apart from having RFID protection like most wallets do, the Flipside 4 also offers other features. It has an external rubber strap that can be used for carrying extra cash with you. When it comes to water it is partially resistant, due to the aluminum material which it’s made of. Also, for the price it comes at, it offers a very satisfactory quality and durability.

This minimalist wallet comes with a 2-year warranty period and the option to return it within 30 days of purchase.

Who shouldn’t buy the Flipside 4?

The Flipside 4 doesn’t exactly have a quick way to access the card and cash bills inside it. I wouldn’t recommend it to you if you don’t want to open a box wallet every time you need a card or some cash.

I also wouldn’t suggest you get this wallet if you don’t want to carry fewer cards, just so that you can carry more cash inside it. As it is literally a little box, you might find yourself overstuffing it without even noticing. In this case, a better option would be a minimalist wallet that has a separate space for cash bills and a separate space for cards.

Who should buy the Flipside 4?

People who are looking for a budget minimalist wallet that still offers decent durability should get the Flipside 4, as it is one of the best wallets under $50.

Also, this wallet offers a very nice advantage compared to others since it’s fully enclosed. Being designed like this means that it can properly protect all the items you put inside it. Compared to open-frame minimalist wallets, the Flipside 4 is much safer.

If you are interested in this wallet, you can read all about it in my Flipside 4 review.

Thinnest Outdoors Wallet – Magpul DAKA Essential Slim

Magpul DAKA Essential Slim Wallet front

If you are really into the minimalist lifestyle and don’t even want to notice your wallet in your pocket, then the thinnest one you can get is the Magpul DAKA Essential Slim. Keep in mind that in order to maintain such a slim figure, this wallet was purposefully designed to carry just a couple of things.

Due to its small size, this wallet can hold 3 to 7 cards at most and it doesn’t have a separate space for holding cash bills. You might be able to slip in a cash bill or two in it, but still, it isn’t really a wallet made for holding cash.

The design of this wallet doesn’t have any unnecessary elements on it and I’m not exaggerating when I say that it’s one of the simplest wallets out there. It has a timeless look and comes in four different colors including black, flat dark earth, stealth gray, and olive drab green.

Even with such a small size the Magpul DAKA Essential Slim still offers some unique features. Some of those great features are:

  • reinforced polymer fabric with anti-slip texture
  • eliminates the bulk and clutter of unnecessary cards
  • permanent RF welded seams
  • rounded corners
  • chemical resistant
  • non-hydroscopic

The manufacturer of the Magpul DAKA Essential Slim offers a 60-day testing period in which you can choose to exchange the wallet or keep it.

Who shouldn’t buy the Magpul DAKA Essential Slim?

The first person I wouldn’t really recommend the Magpul DAKA Essential Slim to is someone that needs a large storage capacity from their wallet. Basically, this wallet is designed to hold only a couple of cards and the space for cash bills is also very limited. Check out my guide on the best wallets for many cards if you use a lot of cards daily.

Another thing to keep in mind before you decide to get this wallet is that it has very tight pockets. This means that it might be hard to take out some of your cards frequently and quickly.

This is also one of the wallets that don’t have RFID-blocking, so if this feature is crucial for you I would suggest taking a look at other wallets on this list or my guide on the best RFID-blocking wallets.

Who should buy the Magpul DAKA Essential Slim?

Anyone who doesn’t need to carry a lot of cards and cash bills with them will enjoy using this amazing thin wallet. It’s designed to fit a small number of things so that it can deliver the light wallet experience that lots of customers are searching for.

If you appreciate fine craftsmanship then you will appreciate this wallet’s design as well. It is made from anti-slip reinforced polymer fabric which is tightly sealed together with RF-welded. The wallet also features rounded corners which is something that a lot of wallets lack, and this makes it extra comfortable to carry around.

You should also purchase this wallet if you are searching for one that can withstand harsh external conditions. This wallet is perfect for people that have an adventurous lifestyle which is exactly why it’s a good outdoors wallet choice.

Best Budget Outdoors Wallet – Dango S1 Stealth

dango s1 stealth design

The Dango S1 Stealth is a wallet designed specifically for sporty people. Everything from its aesthetic to the features that it offers makes it a perfect accessory for anyone who has a very active lifestyle.

There is enough room in this wallet for you to carry anything from 4 to 9 cards. Now I know that you will be able to fit 9 cards inside of it, but I would still suggest only carrying 6 or 7. You should try not to overstuff your wallet so that it can maintain its form for longer. This is also one of those minimalist wallets that can’t hold that much cash, so you might be able to fit 2 or 3 cash bills inside it. You do still have the option to choose to carry fewer cards so that you can carry more cash bills in one of the available pockets.

The overall wallet has a clean and refined look to it. There is only one available color that the Dango S1 Stealth comes in, and that is black DTEX. Still, black goes well with everything, so if you really like this wallet’s design, the lack of color options shouldn’t be a reason not to get it.

One of the best features that this wallet can offer is a strong hang tag, which proves to be very useful to people who like to do sports. It also comes with other accessories like a tether or a string, and there is an option to incorporate one of Dango’s multitools in this wallet design.

Like all the other Dango wallets you can expect to receive a lifetime warranty along with the Dango S1 Stealth, and you can return it if you want within 30 days of getting it.

Who shouldn’t buy the Dango S1 Stealth?

I wouldn’t recommend this wallet if you need bigger storage space. If you carry a dozen cards with you, then the available space that this wallet offers surely won’t be enough.

Unless you have a sporty style then you might not exactly find the design of this wallet to be very appealing. This wallet goes best with any type of sports clothes, but you might not be able to pull it off with a suit or anything formal.

This wallet also might not be the best choice for creative people since it doesn’t offer a lot of options for customization. It doesn’t even offer any other colors apart from black, so you might not get to express your personal style with it.

Who should buy the Dango S1 Stealth?

This wallet is practically made for any runner, climber, adrenaline seeker, or even just someone who likes sports clothes. I haven’t seen a wallet design that better fits this aesthetic.

Campers might also like this wallet since it is equipped with a bunch of neat tools that could come in handy in the wilderness. Usually, campers tend to carry their wallet separate from their tools, which is why the option to carry both at once is such an amazing thing that only a few wallets can offer.

The last group of people I would sincerely recommend this wallet to are travelers. The Dango S1 Stealth is compact, easily attachable, and useful for anyone who likes to travel.

Best Leather Outdoors Wallet – Trayvax Ascent

the Trayvax Ascent on a desk

The greatest thing about this wallet is that it has the best characteristics that leather wallets have while still delivering all the best things that a minimalist wallet can offer.

It would be best to place 2 cards in the front and 2 in the back. You might be able to fit more in the pockets, just remember not to overdo it so that no harm comes to the material of the wallet. This is also one of the minimalist wallets that’s lower on the scale when it comes to cash holding capacity. There is only enough room for about 5 neatly folded cash bills in it.

Personally, I love that this wallet is hand-stitched and that it offers some options for personalization. The most beautiful parts of its design are the slim stainless steel frame and black oxide-coated brass rivets. It has a very traditional-looking aesthetic and it comes in four different colors including Mississippi mud, tobacco brown, steel grey, and stealth black.

The main option for personalization with this wallet is to engrave it. This makes it the best choice on this list if you are thinking of giving it to someone as a gift. The wallet also features a quick-access card slot that can hold 2-4 cards, as well as a MIL-SPEC nylon pull tab that allows for easy access to a couple of cards.

Since this is a Trayvax wallet it comes with a 65-year heirloom warranty and you can also return it after you’ve bought it, just make sure to do so within 30 days of purchasing it.

Who shouldn’t buy the Trayvax Ascent?

If you want a wallet that has more of a high-tech kind of look, then you should browse some other wallets on this list. This one has more of a traditional outdoorsy design.

Something worth mentioning about the Trayvax Ascent is that it is a bit stiff at the beginning which may be a downside to some.

Another thing to consider before choosing this wallet is that it has a metal frame that is sharp and can be uncomfortable if you carry your wallet in your back pocket.

Who should buy the Trayvax Ascent?

The first person that comes to mind who will enjoy using this wallet is someone who wants to upgrade their old traditional wallet to a new simple and minimalist one.

This type of wallet also helps to eliminate the unnecessary clutter in your wallet as it is designed to carry less. So if you are someone who wants to try out carrying fewer things inside your wallet, then it will be perfect for you.

Another good reason to get this wallet is if you usually dress sporty or have an outdoorsy style – this wallet will go great with it.

Best Designed Outdoors Wallet – Dango A10 Adapt A-series Walnut Backplate

Dango A-Series Walnut Backplate wallet next to pen and pull pocket

There are a lot of minimalist wallets out there that could pass for an outdoors wallet when it comes to their features, but not that many that also look the part.

The Dango A10 Adapt A-series Walnut Backplate is one of the rare minimalist wallets that incorporates wood as a material in its design. The plate of this wallet is made out of solid walnut wood. The thing about this material is that it isn’t all that enduring when it comes to contact with the elements, so you should try to keep its exposure to them to a minimum.

There are two places where you can store cards in this wallet and they are the wallet part itself and inside the pull pocket. This storage space is enough to hold a maximum of 9 cards at once, with the option to fit in 1-2 more. The Dango A10 Adapt A-series Walnut Backplate isn’t really made for holding cash and doesn’t have a designated place where you can place any cash bills, but you should be able to fit 2-3 cash bills in one of its pockets.

Probably the best thing about this wallet is the unique and amazing design it offers. The overall wallet is made of 3 different parts including the A-Series walnut backplate, the A10 Adapt wallet, and the A10 pull pocket adapter. Keep in mind that the color of the wood is the only available color for the wooden backplate, but the wallet itself does come in a couple of different colors you can choose from.

This wallet, like all other Dango wallets, has a lifetime warranty and a 30-day return period in case you want to send it back.

Who shouldn’t buy the Dango A10 Adapt A-series Walnut Backplate?

I wouldn’t suggest this wallet if you need one that can withstand harsh conditions, mainly because of the wooden plate. Wood as a material isn’t as durable as other stronger ones, like for example aluminum, so if you want a stronger wallet, I would suggest looking for one made entirely out of metal.

The wooden backplate also only comes in one color, which might be something that creative individuals won’t like. There aren’t that many options for customizing the Dango A10 Adapt A-series Walnut Backplate, so you will have to adapt your wardrobe to it instead of vice versa.

Who should buy the Dango A10 Adapt A-series Walnut Backplate?

The first person who would absolutely love this wallet is someone who likes the outdoorsy style but doesn’t necessarily need a strong wallet for their lifestyle. I mean the wallet literally has a wooden backplate which is the only wallet of this type I’ve seen so far.

I would suggest the Dango A10 Adapt A-series Walnut Backplate to people who don’t need to carry way too many cards and cash bills. You should get it if you truly want to eliminate the unnecessary clutter in your wallet since it has just about enough space for your basic cards and a cash bill or two.

Toughest Outdoors Wallet – Ridge Titanium

Ridge Titanium with cash strap

Among other things, an outdoor wallet should be strong enough to withstand harsher environments and have a sturdy design. For instance, leather wallets can’t handle a lot of sun exposure or a lot of water, and if you have an active lifestyle, chances are your wallet will be exposed to both sun and water regularly. This is where titanium comes into play as one of the strongest materials currently available for making wallets.

The best titanium outdoorsy wallet you can get is the Ridge Titanium.

If you want your wallet to remain functional, you should probably place no more than 10 cards in it, even if it can fit 12. Like most minimalist wallets, the Ridge Titanium has a cash strap for holding cash bills which can accommodate at least 5 of them.

The design of this wallet is something you usually see in minimalist wallets, but it does come in some unique colors like matte black, stonewashed, gunmetal grey, matte cobalt, and burnt titanium.

Not a lot of features are available for it, but it does come with a customizable build that you can tailor to your specific taste, and it also offers RFID protection for your cards.

The Ridge Titanium comes with a warranty that lasts a lifetime, and it has a 45-day return period as well, which is longer than what pretty much all other wallets have.

Who shouldn’t buy the Ridge Titanium?

I wouldn’t say that the Ridge Titanium is the best option for someone who needs to carry a lot of cards and cash with them. It does have a decent storage capacity, but it’s still a minimalist wallet option, so if you want something that can carry more, you should look at some other items on this list.

This isn’t the best wallet for someone who doesn’t want to take part in taking their wallet apart and putting it back together. The customizable build is something that a lot of people appreciate, but some might just want a simpler wallet to get the job done.

Who should buy the Ridge Titanium?

This is an amazing wallet for someone who needs a sturdy, durable, dependable outdoors wallet. It’s made out of titanium which is a top-quality and very strong material, and is one of the best titanium wallets in general so it will be a great pick for anyone looking for an extremely durable wallet.

Even with everything it has to offer the wallet comes at a surprisingly affordable price, so I would suggest it to anyone who wants to get a top-quality wallet that comes at a reasonable price.

I will mention the customizable build again as this is something that a lot of people actually like. Because of this option, you can remake the wallet as you wish just by changing the plates. Even if a small part of the wallet gets damaged, you can easily replace it without having to buy a whole new wallet.

If you are interested in this wallet I suggest you check out my full Ridge Titanium review.

What makes a wallet good for the outdoors?

There are a couple of things that make a wallet good for the outdoors.

The first thing is the material that it’s made of. Logically, a wallet made entirely out of metal will be a better wallet for the outdoors than one made from leather. Even if the wallet is made from leather, it should be a stronger leather material that can withstand harsher environments, since it will be exposed to them more.

Design-wise, a good outdoors wallet should be lightweight, easy to carry, and have enough space for your basic cards and some cash bills. A big plus would be if the wallet has useful features for the outdoors that are incorporated into its design.

The last thing that makes a good outdoors wallet would be if it has an attachment point. Usually, the people who choose this type of wallet are very active individuals that like climbing, running, coming, and similar sporty activities. This is why having an attachment point is important for an outdoorsy wallet because it’s the best way to attach your wallet to your bag or to yourself and keep it safe.

How to pick a good outdoors wallet for yourself?

Picking a good outdoors wallet really comes down to personal preferences. Just make sure that it’s made of strong materials and that it fits your lifestyle well.

For sporty people, I would suggest getting a wallet with an attachment point since it’s the best feature for any active individual.

Campers should try to choose a wallet that has useful features on it. Most Dango wallets can be equipped with a multitool that adds extra functionalities to the wallet, so they would be a perfect fit for campers.
