The Serman Brands Transformer is a stylish, affordable wallet that unlike many other minimalist wallets comes with a few interesting twists and turns that make it a very intriguing and appealing wallet.
Serman Brands Transformer Review
The Serman Brands Transformer is a bifold, RFID-blocking, minimalist wallet made from full-grain cowhide leather. It has storage for up to 12 cards and 10 cash bills, all held safe inside eight card slots and a money clip. The wallet has many other useful features, such as an ID window on the backside, and quick access pockets on the front. It is one of the latest releases from the Serman Brands team, and one of the most elegant wallets manufactured by the brand.
Should you buy the Serman Brands Transformer wallet?
The Serman Brands Transformer is the perfect choice for anyone looking for an affordable leather wallet with lots of storage.
Whether you are looking for a new wallet for yourself, or want to buy a gift for a loved one, you simply can’t go wrong with this model.
It’s sleek, stylish, convenient, and filled with lots of useful features stacked in a simple timeless design.
You can get the Serman Brands Transformer wallet either from the official Serman’s web store or from Amazon.
The price of the wallet will be the same on both sites, unless you are ordering from the US. Orders above $25 (such as this wallet) made from the United States come with free shipping on Amazon, making it a cheaper option for purchasing if you don’t mind waiting a few more days.
Price and value for money
The Serman Brands Transformer wallet will cost you around $30, no matter where you buy it from.
It is one of the cheapest minimalist wallets and a great budget-friendly alternative to most of the popular bifold wallets.
As we mentioned above, ordering from Amazon comes with free shipping and delivery in 5-7 days.
Ordering from Serman’s website, however, will cost you around $3 for the standard, and $6 for the express delivery option.
Warranty and returns
The wallet comes with a 1-year warranty, active from the day of purchase. The warranty covers factory defects emerging under normal conditions and without negligent use from the buyer.
If you got an incorrect order, changed your mind about the wallet, or simply want to give back an unwanted gift, you return the product and ask for a full refund in the first 30 days after purchasing the item.
Serman Brands is a father-son company that was founded in 2015. Driven by their passion for minimalist wallets, they started a brand that aims to become the first in its class and redefine the industry.
With each release, they strive to create a new, innovative model designed with sharp colors and made from the finest materials. So far, they’ve manufactured around a dozen of male wallets, and a couple of women’s pouches.
The Serman Brands Transformer is a bifold, leather wallet equipped with 11 card slots and a money clip for your cash bills. It’s an RFID-protected handcrafted wallet with lots of conveniently placed pockets for quick and easy access.
How to use the Serman Brands Transformer?
Although the wallet has a lot of pockets all around it, each pocket holds no more than one card. This means you will put all your cards in a separate pocket, with your most used cards in the outer slots.
The wallet also has a see-through window placed on the back so you can have easy access to your ID card wherever you need it.
When you open the wallet, on the right side you’ll see a wide steel money clip designed to safely hold up to 10 bills.
The wallet has a big resemblance to the traditional bifold models, except for its much slimmer size. If you are just switching to a minimalist wallet from your old one, then going for the Serman Brands Transfomer might be your best choice.
With its sleek leather workmanship, the Serman Brands Transfomer has a very modern, yet simple design.
Design and colors
The Serman Brands Transfomer is designed in a similar fashion to the traditional bifold wallets, with a few twists.
On the front, there are two single-card pockets, as well as the brand’s logo at the bottom. On the back, you will find the ID window covering the whole side. This feature is usually found inside the wallet. However, Serman took the approach to give you quick access to your ID in case of a hurry, so this is a brave move from the brand.
All of the outer walls of the wallet are in one color, depending on which design you choose. The wallet comes in 9 different colors:
- ruby red
- atlantic blue
- modern black
The wallet is primarily made out of full-grain Cowhide leather – handcrafted and neatly stitched with a fine smooth finish on its surface.
The only exception from this is the money clip, which is naturally made out of steel in order to keep your banknotes tight and safe.
Clothing style fit
With such a fine leather finish that ages gracefully, this wallet will instantly blend into your wardrobe no matter what kind of style you have.
Suits are definitely one of its best companions, but you can pull the Transformer out with almost any outfit.
When it comes to features, this model has quite a lot to offer in its slim build.
The Serman Brands Transformer has strong RFID protection and keeps all your card’s data safe while they are inside the wallet. There is a growing trend of RFID chips in all types of cards lately, so it’s important to keep them safe from any kind of wireless theft.
Not all minimalist wallets have a separate slot for cash, but this one has a perfect solution if you still often shop with cash bills.
On the right inner side of the wallet, there is a steel money clip that stores a lot of bills on it and keeps them from falling out. The clip is much wider than what we are accustomed to seeing in these types of wallets, so there is an extra guarantee that your money will be safe.
The whole backside of the wallet is covered with a single pocket designed as a transparent ID window.
Here you can keep your ID, or any other entrance card, and always have quick access to it if you need it daily. I love the idea of this slot being on the outer wall of the wallet. This way you can show it without taking it out, saving some time when you are in a hurry.
Quick acess card slots
On the front side, next to the Serman Brands logo, there are two additional single-card slots that give you quick access to two of your most-used cards.
The slots have a small “V” shape at the top of them so you can get the card out easily.
How many cards can the Serman Brands Transformer Wallet hold?
Counting the ID window, the wallet can store 10-12 cards in its pockets.
There are 8 pockets inside of the wallet, 4 on each side. 2 pockets are on the front, and the ID slot is found at the back.
How many cash bills can the Serman Brands Transformer hold?
The money clip can hold up to 10 cash bills in it, folded twice.
It is possible to store more than that if you fold them once, however, this will cover a lot of the inner pockets and make access to them much harder.
Size and dimensions
The dimensions of the Serman Brands Transformer are:
- width: 4.3 in / 11 cm
- height: 3.1 in / 7.9 cm
- depth: 0.6 in / 1.5 cm
The wallet weighs around 4 oz / 113 g. It’s not among the lightest wallets out there, as there are a lot of leather models that weigh half of what this wallet weighs. However, the bigger capacity and wider money clip add some weight, so it’s overall pretty justified.
The wallet has gathered really impressive feedback from its users. It has around 4.7/5 rating on both Serman’s website and Amazon, with 5500 reviews on the latter.
Known issues and problems
You should have in mind that this is a budget-priced wallet, so it will come with some minor issues in its design.
The first thing you’ll notice is how often it scratches and leaves marks on the surface. The leather is easily damaged if you keep it in the same pocket with something like your keys, or even with normal wear after a few months.
Another notable issue is that the wallet can become too bulky if you fill it up completely. Although it can technically hold up to 12 cards, putting anything more than 8 makes it thicker than a traditional wallet, let alone a minimalist one.
And finally, there are many reports from different users that the RFID protection may not work, especially on the front two pockets where you will generally keep your most important credit cards.
How does the Serman Brands Transformer compare to other minimalist wallets?
In case you weren’t that delighted by the features of the Transformer, you will be happy to hear there are a lot of similarly built wallets on the market right now. Let’s look at some of the most popular alternatives in this area.
Serman Brands Transformer vs Bellroy Hide & Seek
The Bellroy Hide & Seek wallet has a very similar build to the Serman Brands Transformer with a few exceptions.
First of all, the Bellroy model is much more expensive and costs around $89. For such a price, it offers better quality with its premium, eco-tanned leather and an additional wide pocket inside of the wallet for cash.
However, aside from these differences, the wallets look pretty much the same and have equal capacity. So it’s up to your personal style and preference whether you want the cheaper wallet made from the less durable material, or the premium, high-priced Bellroy Hide & Seek.

Serman Brands Transformer vs Serman Brands 1.0
If you didn’t like what the Transformer wallet has to offer, Serman Brands offers a large array of other options in their assortment. The 1.0 model is their best-selling wallet so far, and it has built quite a reputation for itself.
The Serman Brands 1.0 comes with the same price, design, and materials as the Transformer. However, its features are a bit different and offer a contrasting style of usage to its counterpart.
The money clip on the 1.0 model is a small, thin pin, unlike the wide clip found on the Transformer. It has a similar ID window, only it’s placed inside. The wallet also has fewer card slots and has a pull tab in one of the pockets.
I would recommend the Serman Brands 1.0 wallet to anyone who more often shops with cards, rather than cash, as the money clip and the pull-tab feature are by far the biggest differences between this wallet and the Transformer.
Who should not buy the Serman Brands Transformer Wallet?
I wouldn’t recommend this wallet to sporty people and those constantly on the run. If you spend most of your day afoot, the quality of the leather will only lessen and you’ll be left with a worn-off wallet after just a couple of weeks. These types of people will be better off some sturdier, metal wallets instead. See my guides on the best outdoors wallets and the best tactical wallets for some more exciting and feature-complete options.
This is not an ideal wallet for people who don’t shop with cash often. The main point of this model is its wide money clip, which will only clutter the wallet if you don’t use it for banknotes.
It’s also not the best wallet for those who only carry around a few cards and don’t need 10 separate pockets for them. If you only need space for 5 or 6 cards, half of these pockets will stay empty.
The size is another reason why some people won’t find this wallet practical. Its depth will only widen as you fill the wallet, becoming much bulkier than most minimalist models when it’s completely full.
Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this wallet to anyone who will be troubled by the worn leather, something that might happen after a few months.
Who should buy the Serman Brands Transformer Wallet?
This wallet is great for people looking for a cheap, spacious wallet. If you need storage for a dozen of cards and cash bills, this wallet is one of the most affordable ones you can get.
It’s also great for business people who often wear formal outfits. The leather of this model is exceptional and will look very sleek with your office attire.
Another reason you should consider this wallet is its convenient ID window. If you use an identification badge for public transport or building entrance, this feature will come in handy every day and save you some precious time.
Finally, the Serman Brands Transformer is one of the most affordable, practical, leather wallets that will keep both your cards and cash bills safe. I would recommend it to anyone looking to switch their old wallet or a new one that will look and feel almost the same, but slimmer and with much more features.
