Dango M1 Maverick Spec-Ops Special Edition Review – The Most Feature-Complete Premium Tactical Wallet Ever Made

The M1 Maverick Spec Ops is one of the best tactical wallets, made for those who love extreme situations.

Should you buy the Maverick M1?

dango m1 maverick spec ops person putting in pocket

The Dango M1 Maverick Spec-Ops is arguably the minimalist wallet with the biggest number of tactical features currently available.

Definitely consider it if you’re a true nerd for tactical features and can’t get enough of them, but also keep it in mind if you’re looking for an excellent-quality premium wallet that will stand the test of time and serve you for a lifetime.

Buying

For now, the only way to order this wallet is through the official Dango website or Amazon.

Price and value for money

This wallet costs typically $129. In my opinion, that’s not a small amount of money for a wallet, but I’m pretty sure that if you make a choice to buy this wallet, you will never regret it.

It’s made from high-quality materials, handcrafted in the USA, and it’s the timeless type of wallet because “army style” wallets or any kind of accessories are always evergreen and never really come out of fashion.

In summary, $129 for a premium product that is much more than just a simple wallet is a very good investment, and the wallet is pretty good value for money overall.

Shipping

Dango offer free shipping for any order over $49 in the US. Since the wallet costs more than that, you will get free shipping.

A special Christmas delivery (from 17 to 25 December) is available, and you will get free FedEx 2-day shipping available for US orders only.

It takes 6-8 workdays for your package to get delivered.

If you are trying to make an order from a country other than the US, there might be some extra fees or charges.

Customer support

You can reach the customer support team via email: [email protected]. The company’s mailing address is PO BOX 5053, Santa Clara, CA 95056.

You can also reach them on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. They will respond within one business day.

Warranty

This product has a limited lifetime warranty.

Dango products are built to last, and the brand stands behind them fully. The lifetime warranty covers manufacturing defects: missing parts, torn leather, broken metal, and ripped paracords.

Keep in mind that only original, unaltered and unmodified materials and craftsmanship are covered by this warranty. Accidents, wear and tear, and excessive use are not warranted. That includes scratches, fading, basic longevity and behavior of materials, lost parts, ripped leather, chipped metal, chipped coating, etc.

In case of a repair, you will be responsible for the inbound and outbound shipping costs.

This wallet is made from stainless steel anyway, so it will probably last for decades.

Returns and refunds

In case you don’t like the wallet, you have 30 days to return the wallet from the day of your purchase.

When returning, you must show basic proof of the purchase, including original receipts, email addresses, and the products themselves.

Dango will refund the purchase price, minus the outbound shipping charges within 7 business days of receiving the items.

Keep in mind that returned items must have all original parts and be sent back in brand new condition with all accessories, packaging, etc. Make sure to send an email to Dango before returning the product so that you get specific instructions.

Basics

dango m1 maverick spec ops unassembled

This is a cool tactical wallet that we can consider to be minimalist in many regards, although it is a bit larger when compared to other true minimalist wallets.

The Dango brand

Dango is a US-based manufacturer of higher-end wallets, but also accessories, clothing, apparel, and other everyday carry items.

They have been on the market since 2015, and they focus on durable goods, with quality levels of higher-ticket items, while pricing them affordably and making them accessible to the regular customer.

How to use the M1 Mavercik Spec-Ops Special Edition?

This wallet may look a little complex at first, especially if you are already aware that it has tactical features (some of which may even be life-saving), but the fact of the matter is, it is very easy to use.

Just slide your driver’s license, ID, credit, debit, or medical card down into your wallet, and you’re good to go.

Unboxing

Like all Dango wallets, this one also comes in a fine thin aluminum box with the Dango logo engraved in the middle of the box. The box protects the product during transport well, and damages on delivery are very rare.

Inside the box, you will find your wallet and an instructions card.

The first thing that you will feel when you take the wallet out of the box will be that the product might be described as minimalist but it’s not slim at all.

This is not just some wallet inspired by the army, this is a wallet made for the army.

Don’t forget to keep the original packaging box in case you need to return the product. Also, you can use this box to safely store your wallet when you are not carrying it around.

Aesthetics and design

This wallet is simple, practical and tactical, and it has that silent badass vibe going for it.

Inspired by the military and first responders, the M1 Maverick Spec-Ops Edition comes with a slick and strong build, designed for the rugged individual.

Colors

The wallet is only available in the signature burnt bronze color. In fact, the full name of the wallet is M1 Maverick Spec-Ops Special Edition Burnt Bronze.

Clothing style fit

The wallet is literally made for men who lean towards the urban style of clothing, but the tactical part of its design also attracts an audience that might be considered more masculine in some ways.

The good thing with this wallet is that you can wear it with more casual clothing like olive or sand color jeans or pants, and comfy shirts. You can go hunting or hiking, but also go on a date with the same wallet.

When I saw this wallet for the first time, the first thing that come to my mind was that this is a pure personification of men itself – simple, practical and tactical.

Quality

In my personal opinion, the M1 Maverick Spec-Ops Special Edition is made for hard situations, so quality must be its primary feature.

Materials

The primary materials used in the M1 Spec-Ops are CNC’d 6061 aerospace aluminum and proprietary DTEX material developed by Dango for the chassis, stainless steel for the multitool and the screws, and silicone for the band. I believe this is one of the best aluminum wallets ever made.

Additionally, the chassis is coated with Cerakote, which is a special type of pain that will increase the overall toughness of the wallet’s frame.

Durability

Personally, I expect nothing less than great durability from this wallet. It’s no wonder that Dango offer a lifetime warranty on this product. Judging by the materials that this wallet is made of, it will probably last forever.

In fact, I believe that you’d have to try really hard if you want to damage the wallet significantly.

Primarily made for soldiers, then shared with a global audience, this “more tool than a wallet” is slowly getting its respect among minimalist and outdoor enthusiasts.

Features

person showcasing the dango m1 maverick spec ops

This wallet can easily become your tool in almost any type of situation, especially when it comes to the adventure/survival type of scenarios.

How many cards can the Dango M1 Maverick Spec-Ops can wallet hold?

The Dango M1 Maverick Spec-Ops can hold up to 10 cards without the multitool and 8 cards with it. The metal RFID blocking card cavity can hold up to 6 cards depending on the card thicknesses.

How much cash can the Dango D03 M1 Maverick Spec-Ops wallet hold?

Using the silicone band, you can put your cash on the front side of the wallet, but keep in mind that the wallet will not hold more than a few bills. The number of cash bills that you can carry in the Dango M1 Maverick Spec-Ops wallet doesn’t really depend on the number of cards you have stored inside it.

Weight, size, dimensions

The wallet’s dimensions are:

  • width: 3 in / 7.6 cm
  • height: 4.25 in / 10.7 cm
  • depth: 0.4 in / 1.01 cm

The wallet weighs 4 oz / 113 g.

Overall, both the size and the weight of the wallet are small enough so that the wallet can still be considered minimalist, but at the same time, this will be one of the bulkier and heavier minimalist wallets out there.

Does the Dango M1 Maverick Spe-Ops wallet have RFID blocking?

The Dango M1 Maverick Spec-Ops wallet employs RFID blocking technology, which protects your sensitive information from unwanted RFID scans and guarantees card security. The RFID-blocking metal card cavity is placed inside the wallet, and that way, the wallet protects your identity.

Water resistance

Even if the Dango M1 Maverick Spec-Ops is made with water-resistant DTEX material (which should mean it is waterproof), I would still recommend keeping your wallet away from water, since it is an open type of wallet when your cards may be directly exposed to moisture.

Bottle opener

This wallet comes with a bottle opener, which is quite an interesting feature for a tactical wallet.

Usually, the bottle openers in tactical wallets are only designed to get the job done in emergencies and are not very good. A lot of manufacturers choose to make them from aluminum or very thin stainless steel, so after using them for a month or two, the material will start to lose the shape needed for proper functioning.

That’s not the case with the bottle opener in this wallet. While the feature will still not be as good as a real bottle opener itself, it will still be much better than the openers in most other wallets.

Rope tensioners

Another tactical feature of the wallet is the rope tensioners. These are designed for hikers, extreme sports lovers, and alpinists, all of whom might find this tool useful in case their professional gear fails.

Make no mistake, however – this feature should also be used only in emergencies!

Belt cutter

Probably the first thing that comes to mind when you read “belt cutter” is a movie scene in which a person is trying to cut or open their seat belt while stuck in a car that has somehow ended underwater, and it is now a question of life and death.

That is the main purpose of this feature. As I previously mentioned, this wallet may even end up saving your life.

1/4″ hex wrench

The wallet comes with a hex wrench (a.k.a Allen wrench), which, in my opinion, is one of the most useful tactical features of this wallet.

Unlike the majority of tactical features found in wallets, this one can actually be of some pretty serious use at times. The small wrench is made from stainless steel, so it will be pretty much as good as a regular tool would be, and if you happen to be someone that needs to adjust or fix screws on a more regular basis, this feature will definitely come in handy.

Serrated edge

This is another interesting feature of the wallet that may be very useful in some situations.

Serrated edges are blades that have some kind of toothed or saw-like edge ground into the cutting surface. They’re great for cutting through belts and ropes, fabric and various other textured materials. You can probably imagine a few scenarios where you would like to have quick access to such a tool.

Nail pryer

I’m not quite sure of how much use this tool will be to you, but I’m pretty sure that it will last long enough to be of use at least in some situations. It will definitely get the job done in a pinch.

Oxygen sensor wrench

I’m not exactly sure how this tool really works because honestly, I’ve never tried it.

Oxygen sensor wrenches enable you to remove and install sensors on computerized engine-controlled vehicles. Compared to standard wrenches, the offset design helps you reach oxygen sensors in tough-to-reach spots. With this feature, you won’t need a special tool to remove your vehicle’s O2 sensor.

Although nothing beats using the right tools for the right job, you may even get away with just using this little tool at times.

Sharp edge

This is very similar to the serrated edge but not that sophisticated.

Unlike the serrated edge, you may find this tool useful in more everyday types of situations, including natural settings, but also maybe your garage or garden on occasions.

Chisel

The chisel can be used for cutting and shaping wood and stone.

M1 Maverick Spec-Ops vs Dango D01 Dapper

the Dango D01 Dapper wallet full with cards and cash

In some ways, the Maveric M1 Spec-Ops and the Dango D01 Dapper are quite similar.

Both of them are made of high-quality materials (some of them developed by the US army), and both of them are very established products coming from a reputable brand dedicated to manufacturing excellent minimalist wallets.

Also, both of these products will likely last a long time.

They do have some differences though.

The M1 Maverick is made of DTEX, while the Dango D01 Dapper is made of genuine top-grained leather, which is also very strong and durable but it is still leather and not quite as tough as the DTEX.

If you need the type of wallet with more room for your cards, then maybe the Dango D01 Dapper is a better option since it can hold up to 12 cards, while the M1 Maverick can only hold up to 8 cards. Also, be aware that some people have reported that they’ve had some issues putting more than 6-7 cards in the D01 Dapper (the process can get slow and some people can find that annoying).

Both of the wallets have some nice tactical features, but the M1 Maverick has a lot more, so if you’re a true tactical wallet geek, then you will probably want to go with the M1.

If you are a biker, hiker, or a nature lover, then maybe the M1 Maverick Spec-Ops will suit you better. Also, if you are an extreme athlete or an adrenaline junkie, then again, go with the M1 Maverick.

If, on the other hand, you are searching for a great wallet made of premium materials under $100, then the D01 Dapper will likely be a better option for you, as its price tag of $69 definitely makes it the more budget-friendly choice. Also, the D01 Dapper will be a better choice if you want to keep weight down to a minimum.

Who should not buy Dango M1 Maverick Spec-Ops wallet?

If you are a classy type of person, then this wallet is not for you, especially if you are searching for a slim wallet.

Business people and office workers will probably not want a wallet that has a multitool inside it, as they will likely not need such features, and they will want the ability to put more cards inside rather than carrying a multitool around.

If you need to carry more cash on you on a daily basis, or you simply prefer to use cash more often than cards, then this wallet is definitely not for you, and I recommend checking out my guide on the best wallets for lots of cash.

The same goes if you are a person who needs to carry more than 8-10 cards, in which case I suggest seeing my guide on the best wallets for many cards.

Finally, this wallet may be outside the price range for some people, in which case I recommend seeing my guides on the best wallets under $50 or the best wallets under $30.

Who should buy Dango M1 Maverick Spec-Ops wallet?

People in the military would love this wallet.

The wallet is very reliable and of premium quality, so it will be very alluring to people that spend a lot of time in challenging environments, such as nature lovers and outdoorsy people. I would definitely consider this wallet to be one of the best outdoors wallets available today. Also, if you are a person who works outside most of the time, then you should consider this wallet as well.

Finally, true tactical wallet enthusiasts will love this wallet, as it is one of the most feature-complete tactical wallets ever made, with a ton of different tools and use cases where it might be very useful.
