Dango’s M1 Maverick Rail wallet is an all-metal, open-frame wallet consisting of two compartments. It is a simple, minimalist card holder equipped with tons of useful features and a signature Dango design.
How to use the M1 Maverick Rail wallet?
The main part of the wallet is the aluminum chassis, a metal frame divided into two pockets. The back pocket is fully enclosed with a metal plate that secures your cards in between.
The second, front pocket is fully open, with the innovative rail mechanism implementation, it is designed to hold a couple of cards. The mechanism uses a quick release system to secure the cards and keep them from falling out, even though the pocket is completely open on one side.

The band strapped around the wallet is made from silicone, while the screws used to screw all the parts together are made from stainless steel.
As you can see, the whole wallet, aside from the rubber band used for elasticity, is completely made from metal. This makes it an extremely durable and unbreakable item, even in some of the roughest circumstances.

RFID blocking
One of the biggest advantages coming from the full metal build of the Dango M1 Maverick Rail is that it offers great RFID protection.
This protection applies only to the main pocket, which is fully enclosed with metal plates from all sides. The secondary, open pocket, naturally doesn’t offer as much protection and you’ll want to use this one for your ID cards and similar contents.
Wallet band
The plate that forms the enclosed pocket is held onto the main chassis with a silicone wallet band, tied around the whole wallet.
The band has two functions. First, it holds the free-flowing plate tied to the chassis, as we mentioned. Second, it acts as an additional pocket on the outside of the wallet, which you can use to store your cash bills.
Although it comes in one, matte black color, you can always order a second, separate band from the Dango store if you want to switch things up a bit. It is an easily removable and replaceable part, something you can change by yourself at any time.
Rail mechanism
The main feature of the M1 Maverick Rail is, of course, the rail mechanism.
This is Dango’s new, unique quick-release system which uses rails mounted on the secondary, open pocket in the front of the wallet. Since it’s completely open from one side, it acts mainly as a functional ID window. The pocket grants easy access to the cards put in it, as well as a way to scan them without having to take them out.
It is a very convenient and useful mechanism, offering a stable compartment out of which cards can’t fall out, but also a useful way to display ID cards, badges, keycards, public transport cards, etc.
Attachment holes
Aside from all the pocket features, the M1 Maverick also has 4 attachment holes mounted on all four sides of the chassis. The holes are fairly small but sufficient for attaching a tether, or a lanyard to them, and keeping the wallet tied to your pockets or your belt.

And reviews on Amazon cannot be manipulated as easily, which only assures us that this is a product that delivers exactly what it advertises.
Known issues and problems
For such a high price, users will usually expect only the best. And while the M1 Maverick Rail does cover many angles, it still has some notable issues you should be aware of before buying.
The first thing most users have agreed on is that the wallet is too heavy and bulky. The metal build has lots of somewhat sharp edges that can do serious damage to your pockets and items, especially if you wear pants with smaller pockets or keep the wallet inside for a large part of the day. One user has even complained that the wallet has rubbed holes through his pants pockets.
The second most notable issue comes with the silicone wallet band. The band has to be elastic in order to keep the pocket secured, but it can also tear up far too easily. And if it does, it makes the wallet practically useless until you buy a new band.
Another thing to have in mind is that this isn’t a wallet made for rough terrains or jobs on the field. The open design with multiple holes means dirt gets in it far too often, damaging its contents and ruining the strips on the cards. This can often be very problematic, as it can render a card completely useless, forcing you to have to replace it with a new one.
And finally, the wallet is very impractical for carrying cash bills. The band is not a great option for such a purpose, as it causes a lot of trouble when getting the money out and back in. There will be a lot of messy fumbling whenever you are trying to pay with bills instead of cards.
Dango M1 Maverick Rail vs Harber London Leather Bifold

These two wallets, although both costing exactly the same price, are the epitomes of the two different approaches you can take when choosing your next wallet.
While Dango’s model uses aluminum for its build and stores all your cards in two open pockets, the Harber London offers nice, vintage leather craftsmanship with a bifold mechanism. This design resembles the old, traditional wallets, contrary to Dango’s approach of full modernity and redefinition.
The Harber also has a much bigger capacity, storing almost double the number of cards, and even allowing for some coins inside of it. But thanks to this feature, it is also much bulkier, with a depth 6 times the size of the M1 Maverick Rail.
And because both cost around $110, the choice will fall purely on your personal style and current needs. If you want to go full modern minimalist, stick with the Dango M1 Maverick Rail. Who should not buy the M1 Maverick Rail?
First of all, this wallet is not exactly good for people with outdoor jobs, or anyone working out in the field. As we mentioned, dirt often gets inside the wallet through the many holes, and this wallet will not be too effective if you spend most of your days out on dirt terrains. Secondly, people who often use cash and can’t quite get rid of the dozens of items in their old wallets will have a hard time adapting to the M1 Maverick Rail as well.

Also, I wouldn’t recommend this wallet to people who wear tighter clothes, especially pants. One of the biggest issues with the wallet is its sturdy, metal build that can easily tear your pants and damage your pockets. If this might be a concern for you then you are better off with some of the smoother, round-edged wallets, or even leather wallets.
And finally, if all you carry with you are credit cards, and no ID cards, badges, or access cards, then you won’t find any use for the ID window designed on the open, rail pocket. I suggest you search for wallets that have full RFID protection and do not leave as much space for pockets you probably won’t use.
